About Us.Hello! Mohairshawls.co.uk is a trading name of Fairyglass, a small gift retailer based in Wiltshire, UK. We trade via several websites, at fairs & festivals around the UK, and the shawls and other items we distribute are offered wholesale to retailers across the country. For our contact details please visit our contact page. We also produce stunning glass jewellery in our own workshop- click here to visit our Fairyglass jewellery website!
We're a small business- there's two of us here running the retail side of things. Our shawls are handmade by a group of women in Siberia, and our business partner who looks after the wholesale side of the business regularly visits them to ensure supply and quality are sustained, and that they are happy with our business. It's a very personal service- we're committed to providing high quality product at fair prices that allow the makers to earn a decent living.
We aim to offer our products in an efficient manner- our website uses totally secure 128-bit card encryption to ensure your information is kept private, and we will usually ship your order the same day or next day latest. Occasionally, when we're at a festival, there may be a short delay- if you're concerned about delivery time, please check the events page on our glass website, www.fairyglass.co.uk, to see if we're away, and contact us if necessary so that we can prioritise your order.
| About Our Shawls. Our mohair shawls are produced in Siberia from 60% mohair and 40% viscose/silk mix. Each shawl is handmade by one of a group of women we deal directly with, and every shawl is hand dyed, which results in an amazing range of colours.
Although the "web" shawls look delicate they're actually pretty robust and have a wonderful, silky-soft feel to them. They're incredibly versatile- for ideas on ways to wear them please visit our "How To Wear Your Shawl" page
We visit our suppliers every month. This allows us to feed back any questions or comments about their work, and to ensure that our designs are the latest available. It also means we can ensure they're happy with the relationship, which is very important to us. We have agreed with our Siberian ladies that we'll pay them above average market wages in return for the best quality output- they benefit from an improved standard of living, and we have some of the best mohair shawls to be found anywhere.
Our mohair shawls are easy to care for- they're a lot more robust than they appear. However, they do need the occasional wash (don't we all?). We recommend hand-washing in lukewarm water using a mild shampoo as a soap. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry- be careful not to stretch them when drying, it's best to hang them over a washing line or drying rail.
If you have the misfortune to snag your shawl on something and it pulls one of the threads, simply shake the shawl out until it regains its shape, and tie off the end of the thread to a nearby weave. Cut any remainder off with a pair of scissors and your shawl will be back to tip-top condition!
Because every shawl is hand dyed, and because your computer monitor may not be set to the same colour system as ours, the colour of the shawl you receive may differ slightly from that on the screen. We hope you'll be very happy with your purchase, but if you're not we're happy to swap the shawl for another tone, provided of course that it hasn't been worn (except to check the colour) and is resaleable.
As our shawls are hand woven, sizes do vary a little, as do shapes- mostly they're oblong, but some are square. Patterns also vary depending on who's actually woven the shawl, and the mood they were in when they were producing it.
| How To Wear Your ShawlOur mohair shawls are versatile, comfortable and good looking! Here are some ideas on how to wear your shawl. Summer: 1. Fold in half to form a triangle or two-pointed fold and drape over the shoulders. Take the points that dangle down the front and tie them together behind your back so the shawl covers the shoulders and back of neck. This keeps the evening chill at bay- perfect for garden parties, barbeques, concerts, etc. 2. The simple method- fold your mohair shawl in half and wear loosely over your shoulders so that the shoulders and neck are covered. Winter: 1. Fold or pull the shawl into a long bunch of material (like a scarf) and wear around the neck to prevent cold air getting in at the top of your coat or jumper. This is lovely and warm! 2. Fold in half and wear over the head to prevent heat loss (and displacement of hairstyle in high winds!)
Or how about these ideas: When it's not required to keep you warm, knot it around your waist over jeans to make an impromptu skirt- it looks great! Take two contrasting colours and wear them together, one over the other- this gives a wonderful blend of colour. This is especially effective when a white is used with a rich colour such as purple. | How To Contact UsWe are: Fairyglass 28 Brunel Way Box Corsham Wiltshire SN13 8LR tel. 01225 436208 fax. 01225 436125 info@mohairshawls.co.uk
